    How can you make money at selling articles to magazines and newspapers? What are the best markets to target? Want to know how you can resell your pieces over and over again? Learn how to sell an idea.
   January's speaker was author and prolific freelance writer, Beverly Lauderdale. Born in Nebraska, Beverly grew up in Iowa and received a B.A. from Simpson College, and an M.A. in English literature from Holy Names College. A former junior high school teacher, she is currently a part-time instructor at Holy Names College and teaches a popular adult education class, "Craft of Writing," for the Mt. Diablo School District.
    As a freelancer, she's written the novel, The Long Wind and hundreds of articles and short stories. Her credits include Travel and Leisure, Biography, TWA Ambassador, Alaska Airlines, Chicago Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor, House Beautiful, Sea, The Writer, Byline, Essence . . . and many more!
    Beverly's talk covered her best secrets for getting published. In a world of brand-name authors and celebrity advances, you can still become a successful published writer. She gave her tips for negotiating payment, types of rights you may sell, and what to do once you've received an acceptance.
