Laugh at Life
Mt Diablo Branch Welcomes Columnist Jean Gonick

Jean Gonick's Friday Datebook column (Failing at Living - SF Chronicle) is filled with humor and insights. The author of the book Mostly True Confessions, her articles have appeared in national magazines such as G.Q., Redbook, and Good Housekeeping. The next paragraph was extracted from her SF State Univ. English class website.

Whither Jean Gonick?
Once upon a time she supported herself by writing for national magazines and craven Hollywood producers. When she became too old to "take" meetings (and when the R&D money dried up) it occurred to her that both writers and teachers are, in essence, communicators, and that she should go into teaching. English, of course; she'd majored in Creative Writing at SFSU from '68 (The Strike) to '72 (Kent State), and she came back to her alma mater in '01 (9-11) to earn her single subject credential. The rest, as they say, is history.

Ms. Gonick will tell us how she fails at living and share examples of how she handles humor in her columns. January 8th, 11:30 a.m. for socializing, luncheon to follow.

The Hungry Hunter restaurant is at 3201 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette (corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd./Pleasant Hill Rd.) Take the Pleasant Hill Rd. SOUTH exit off Hwy. 24 freeway. HH is just south of the freeway. In case you get lost, call (925) 938-3938 for directions.

Meaningless sex dances on the beach  This one's about writing (sort of).
