MAKING HISTORY FUN
CWC WELCOMES CHILDREN’S AUTHOR, LORETTA ICHORD

Harry Potter has turned our children on to fiction – now, watch their eyes light up with the quality nonfiction of Loretta Ichord. History can leap off the page with great writing, the human element and some fun facts – a good story is a good story.

Ichord really wanted to be an opera diva, but she decided to lead with her more compelling talent, writing. Her Irish father taught her the joy of story-telling and reading, but she always had to squeeze writing in between raising a family and a day job (sound familiar?).

Still, she persevered, beginning with shorter works – articles, essays and short stories.  In 1998, she published her first book, Hasty Pudding, Johnny Cakes and Other Good Stuff; Cooking in Colonial America. She also did an intriguing book on the history of dentistry, appealing to the childhood love of ‘gross-outs.’ Her newest book, Raising the Roof: A History of American Houses, is due out in the fall of this year.
