Our speaker was Jean Hegland, author of Into the Forest.

Jean Hegland described the sequencing of drafts that she uses when she writes. She talked about that interesting tension between dividing writing into a series of more or less discrete stages while at the same time remaining open to change and discovery at every step along the way.

Hegland lives west of Healdsburg on 55 acres of second-growth forest with her husband and three children  (eleven and nine year-old daughters and a five year old son). She home schools her children, teaches part time at Santa Rosa Junior College and writes.

The Life Within: Celebration of a Pregnancy was published by The Humana Press in 1991. Into the Forest was published by Calyx Books in 1996 and by Bantam in 1997. Her new novel is forthcoming from Bantam this year.
