THREE OF OUR OWN AUTHORS TELL ALL
(well, maybe not all . . . )
You think you know them, but wait until you see them in
action! Mt. Diablo CWC Board members Al
Garrotto, Liz Koehler-Pentacoff,
and Camille Minichino will
give us a mini-workshop at our regular meeting on Saturday, May 10.
Al Garrotto's third novel, Circles
of Stone, will be released this summer from Hilliard
and Harris Publishers. Does he outline
the first draft or fly by the seat of his pants? Al has done it both ways
and will offer "blank screen to final page" tips and tactics for writing
a novel's first draft.
Elizabeth
Koehler-Pentacoff's most recent book is The
ABCs of Writing for Children, but the 113 authors she interviewed
gave advice applicable to adult literature also. Liz has many other books
to her credit, is a columnist for Byline Magazine, and teaches writing
and drama through Cal State Hayward. Liz will give nitty-gritty advice
regarding revision, character, breaking writers block and how to break
into the world of publishing books for children.
Camille Minichino has published five mystery novels,
a book of nonfiction, short stories, and personal pieces. She teaches writing
for Emeritus College (DVC) and adult ed programs in San Leandro and Castro
Valley. Camille will give techniques (and colorful handouts!) for organizing
and structuring novels and larger works of nonfiction.
