SHORT AND SWEET - GREAT ESSAY AND SHORT STORY WRITING
What makes a great short story? Stephen D. Gutierrez should know. His collection of short stories and essays, Elements, won the '96 Charles and Mildred Nilon Excellence in Minority Fiction Award. He appears regularly in highly esteemed publications such as The Minnesota Review, ZYZYYVA and Fiction, and his work will shortly appear in two anthologies - Many Mountains Moving and Fantasmas - Supernatural Stories by Mexican American Writers.
His latest collection, La Gloria Meets La Helen en la Marqueta: A Fresno Montage, is just out, but he is already working on another book, California Considerations. Somehow he manages to find time to write and still handle a demanding teaching job at Cal State Hayward.
